The 365 Day Challenge--Day 58

Today we went to Malibu to get breakfast burrito's at Lily's (the best ever)! We stopped at the Country Mart--where we used to hang out during college--and it has changed so much. So crowded now with much more commercial stores there. Malibu is much more crowded now!

I haven't had anything meaningful to post about in the past few days--UNTIL NOW!!! You are looking at a Snickers cupcake from Joans on Third. Someone from my office brought it to me--he is now one of my favorite people.

Chris's high school friend Erin came to stay with us tonight. We watched the Oscars together!

Today we hiked to Sturtevant Falls near Arcadia. There are some cabins that were built in the early 1900's but are no longer in use.

I came home tonight to a bag from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power that included 2 Compact Fluorescent Lights and some literature on saving water. How cool! We are currently in a drought here in Southern California and so we really need to conserve water. We live in a desert and our water source is largely from the snow melt on the Sierra Nevada's which has had a very dry winter. There are now restrictions on when and how often you can water your lawn, etc.

We recently purchased an energy efficient washing machine and received a $250 rebate check from LADWP!

We currently have our electricty bill down to about $25/month. We are very concerned with conserving energy and I would encourage you to do the same! Unplug appliances when they're not in use, turn lights off when you're not in a room, don't run the water while you're brushing your teeth, take shorter showers...a lot of things that will take just a little thought but save a lot of energy and YOU a lot of money!

The 365 Day Challenge--Day 44--Happy Valentines Day!

Since I have not posted in a few days, today will be a jumbo post! I uploaded these pictures in reverse order accidentally and so I will start with tonight, and end with this morning!

Our Valentine's Day tradition for several years now has been to go to In-n-Out Burger for Valentines dinner. It really beats calling months in advance for a restaurant reservation only to be packed in a restaurant with tons of other couples. In years past In-n-Out has been a ghosttown on V day but not tonight! Here we are after our burgers, animal style:


We had lunch down at the Port of Los Angeles. I love boats and ships and really love being at the port and seeing all the cranes and cartons loading and unloading. Weird, I know, but I really love it! This huge container ship floated by while we were eating lunch:



The Point Vicente Lighthouse is only open one Saturday a month, and today happened to be that day. We've been trying to get to it for a while now. I love lighthouses! I'd like to be able to visit all the lighthouses on the California coast one day. It can be done, except for that elusive Point Conception Lighthouse that I want so badly to see!

Chris started the day off with Baci--my favorite Italian chocolates that we discovered on our honeymoon. Notice that Riley would really like one too (sorry I can't get the picture to rotate).

It has been raining here in LA, which doesn't happen very often. I saw a rainbow outside my office window which was a treat!

Girls Weekend 2009

In January I went to Blue Ridge, Georgia for my annual girls weekend with my sorority sisters. Not as many made it as ususal this year because of so many babies being born! As you can tell, there are even more babies on the way!!

The best taco stand in LA is in Hollywood on Vine. Cactus Taqueria. It's very unassuming but so good. I am a discriminating refried bean eater and they have the best I've found so far!

On Saturday we went to one of the Grammy gifting suites and picked up a few things--like free jeans!

Chris's company had a table at the GRAMMY MusiCares event on Friday night honoring Neil Diamond as person of the year. We saw Coldplay, Jennifer Hudson, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Adele and many others doing some of Neil's song as a tribute to him. At the end Neil came out and sang a few of his biggest hits. It was a great time to get dressed up and have fun.

We're going to France! We bought our plane tickets this weekend and we're going for 10 days at the end of March. Haven't decided yet exactly where we're going but thinking the Loire Valley to see all the chateaux!

I got to spend part of my birthday curled up with Oscar, my neighbor's dog. Usually Oscar won't even let me touch him but he even gave me a birthday kiss!

My odometer today, two years to the day I got my car. Less than 15,000 miles! Yay for living in the city!
